CAMPER AGES: 8 to 17

TYPE OF CAMP: Overnight/Sleepaway. Overnight

CAMPER GENDER(S): Coed Campers.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Adventure, Waterfront/Aquatics, Wilderness/Nature, Horses/Equestrian, Fine Arts/Crafts, Dance, Theater, Swimming, Team Sports, and more. Rock Climbing, Mountain Biking, Backpacking/Outdoor Living Skills, Leadership

CAMP LOCATION: The camp is located in California's splendid Tahoe National Forest, 1-1/4 hours north of Lake Tahoe, on the peaceful headwaters of the North Yuba River and adjacent to the Lakes Basin Recreation Area with dozens of pristine mountain lakes and miles and miles of hiking, biking, and horseback trails. Please visit Our Camp Website Link: www.HighSierraCamp.com or call us at (866) 597-6617 for more information.

CAMP FACILITIES: The facility is rustic, in keeping with its wilderness adventure program. Participants sleep in cabins and large traditional tipis. There is a bathhouse with private showers and flush toilets. In addition, there is an administrative building with the camp's office and health center, recreation hall, dining hall, bike shop, arts & crafts hut, pool, volleyball court, archery range, challenge ropes course, horseshoe pit, disc golf course, and a camp fire area including a stage.

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: The camp's focus is on helping children 8 to 17 take another step toward becoming happy, healthy, well-adjusted adults.

We promote positive youth development through a program that includes many of the summer camp classics, such as arts & crafts, archery, camp fire, dance, drama, games, swimming, etc., plus exhilarating wilderness adventure activities, such as rock climbing, mountain biking, mountain boarding, horseback trail rides, hikes, backpacking, etc.

We also offer three specialized program tracks in which kids who love rock climbing, mountain biking or outdoor living skills (backpacking) can really focus on those activities.

In fact, our program has so many fun activities kids can't do them all in a single week! After a day of team building fun and games designed so kids get to meet and know others, kids sign up for activities every other day. They are not locked into a block schedule. Rather, they can sign up for the activities they really enjoy, or to be with friends. After all, when people think of camp, they think of fun and friends.

And our camp is so confident that your child will have fun, it offers a money-back guarantee. If your child doesn't have fun, we'll refund your money. No questions asked. (See the web site for details.) We don't know of another camp that backs its program with such a promise.

But fun isn't even the best part of camp. While kids come to camp the first time for all the great activities, they return for the magic. They simply feel exhilarated and nourished from their experience. This springs from our focus on youth development, with activities designed to help kids:

* build self-esteem and self-worth by contributing to their community,

* develop self-confidence by trying new activities in a criticism-free zone and acquiring new or improved skills such as in rock climbing, dance, paddle boarding, drama, or mountain biking,

* increase independence by successfully living away from home and making decisions for themselves such as what activities to pursue and even designing their own activity period,

* gain in understanding of others who come from different regions of the world (children and staff have come from virtually every continent on earth, including Antarctica where one of our staff member help build the research station),

* nurture an enduring sense of adventure, unafraid to try new things, springing from all the opportunities at camp, the encouragement and the lack of criticism by both peers and adults, and

* enhance an appreciation of nature by unplugging from electronics and living in a beautiful living, breathing forest.

When you mix all these positive developmental attributes with fun and friends in a beautiful mountain setting, you get all the ingredients for magic.

We think this contributed to Outside Magazine naming Shaffer's High Sierra Camp as one of its five favorite camps in the entire country. And with a money-back guarantee, you can't go wrong.

Don't settle for just a fun time when your child can have a life-changing experience. It's one of the best gifts you can give your child.

Watch our video (Our Camp Website Link: youtu.be) and then give us a call. We'd love to talk to you!

P.S. With room for just 70 campers at any one time, sessions fill. Don't be left out. Call today!

WINTER (OFF-SEASON) OFFICE ADDRESS:
PO Box 1078 Groveland, CA. 95321

CAMPER AGES: 11-18

TYPE OF CAMP: Overnight/Sleepaway.

CAMPER GENDER(S): Coed Campers.

BRIEF CAMP DESCRIPTION: Our outdoor summer camps are our specialty. We offer a 5-day program for younger participants ages 11-13, and a choice of a
6-day or 11-day program for youth ages 13-17. Our goals include providing unforgettable experiences that intimately connects each youth with nature, themselves, and the greater world around them in Yosemite National Park!

SPECIAL NEEDS CAMPERS: Lasting Adventures, Inc. strives to give outdoor experiences to ALL youth. If a child is physically capable of participating in our Yosemite backpacking adventures, then we are able to accommodate most special needs.

CAMP INSTRUCTIONAL ACTIVITIES OFFERED:
Adventure, Wilderness/Nature, Swimming, Science, and more. Adventure Based Programming. We Participate In Fun, Challenging, & Significant Events & Games, Providing Support Throughout.

CAMP LOCATION: We operate throughout the Yosemite backcountry. All youth trips meet in Tuolumne meadows which is approx. a 3.5-4 hour drive from the San Francisco Bay area. All trips end in Yosemite Valley proper.

CAMP FACILITIES: We teach respect for yourself, others, and the environment through a Yosemite backpacking adventure. Participants camp and sleep under the stars or in tents. We move locations and hike daily. We learn about nature and challenge ourselves to become better contributors in this world!

CAMP PROGRAM INFO: Our outdoor summer camps, also known as the Yosemite High Country Adventure youth backpacking trips, are our specialty. Our weekly programs are six days/ five nights in length and average between 25-35 backpacking miles. These trips usually begin in the Yosemite High Country and conclude in Yosemite Valley proper. On all trips we conduct some side hikes (without backpacks) to famous sites and peaks (such as Half Dome, Clouds Rest, El Capitan, Mount Hoffman, and Red Peak).

These day trips average another 6 to 10 miles. Every other week we offer a different trail. So if you would like to choose a two-week adventure (13 days/ 12 nights) by combining two sessions; your child will be guaranteed to see different terrain each week. Additionally, by choosing the two-week option, your child will have a layover day in either Tuolumne Meadows or Yosemite Valley proper where the participants will partake in more sightseeing opportunities. During this layover day, participants will also have a chance to re-supply, wash-up, and eat some fresh food at a local eatery.

Throughout the adventure, participants will be guided along some of the most famous trails and to the top of some of the most famous passes and peaks within Yosemite National Park. Our experienced leaders have an extensive knowledge of the Yosemite backcountry. In addition to taking our participants to many of the famous locations, our leaders will also guide participants to lesser known areas that we have found over the years such as off-the-trail high alpine lakes (where fish are plentiful), backcountry waterfalls, alpine meadows, spectacular vistas, watering holes, cliff jumping areas, and natural waterslides.

On most trips, we backpack every day but one (a lay over day and location is usually agreed upon by the team) and we are on the trail for an average of 4-5 hours. Most of our trips go from a higher elevation to a lower elevation and throughout the experience we take our time, take in the views, and break at awesome watering holes. Yet, viewing the Yosemite backcountry is only one of the many outcomes that occur on these trips.

Our primary mission is to use the natural environment and outdoor activities to teach participants the necessary skills and attitudes for living successful lives. We also strive to foster an appreciation for the wilderness, nature, and the world around us. In addition to unique individual backgrounds and certifications, our leaders are all trained in Adventure Based Programming. Through Adventure Based Programming, participants will be challenged to improve their sense of self-esteem, self-worth, and self-confidence. Participants will participate in daily goal setting, group activities and debriefing (usually mixed in with marshmallows around the campfire.) This is all done within an environment of fun and support.

All participants will also learn basic backpacking skills, wilderness ethics, wilderness appreciation and engage in Leave No Trace principals. Along with creating lasting memories, it is our goal that participants will finish this adventure with a greater knowledge of themselves, the world, and the environment around them.

CAMP LEADERSHIP CIT/LIT PROGRAMS: We develop Yosemite Guides! We have the only Junior Guide program in Yosemite. Open to youth ages 16-18 with a passion for the outdoors and helping others. 2-4 week sessions.

We hold a deep understanding of the incredible transformation that occurs when kids attend our residential camp.
